Online
Africa Online is currently the largest ISP on the African continent.
Prior to its' sale to an African consortium in October of 1998 Africa
Online was a subsidiary of Prodigy Internet, the third largest ISP
in the United States at the time. The total redesign of Africa Online
represented a particular challenge in that we had to allow each
country to retain its own identity within the overall framework
of the web site. Over 20 design options were considered before the
final version was chosen. In 2001 (after a four year run) my design
was replaced with a new
version. The above link is a screenshot of one of Africa Online's
early chat initiatives live coverage of Thabo Mbeki's (now
President of South Africa) speech to the Harvard Forum (at which
I was present).
